🌳 Made for Shade: The Anatomy of a Great Shade Yard 🌳
Rockwall, Texas
Shady yards can be tricky. You probably noticed in the video above that there ARE several spots in the landscape which appear to be bathed in bright sunlight. But this isn’t necessarily the godsend you might think! It’s actually a major source of frustration for so many of us with shady yards:
An area might stay in deep shade for most of the day but then get blasted with intense sun for about an hour or two each afternoon.

That hour of sunlight isn’t enough to support a sun loving plant (certainly not enough for healthy turf grass), but if it comes at the wrong time of day—say, in the heat of the afternoon around 2:00 P.M.— then it CAN be enough to take many shade loving plants off the table. Even in that short amount of time, many shade plants can wither and burn.
So what can you do?
The homeowners above worked with Covington’s landscape designer Steve Malone to help solve their tricky situation. Working with a designer is always a great option, but if you are in a similar predicament, you can also visit Covington’s Nursery and talk through your situation with our expert retail team members.

After paying close attention to the sun and shade exposures of your yard, show up to Covington’s with as much information as possible about your existing situation and I guarantee we’ll find you a solution!
