Are the Hotels and Bathrooms Up to Western Standards? Ryan Covington’s “Isn’t India ???” Series, Episode 7

The most commonly encountered problem isn’t that India doesn’t have nice accommodations — India has spectacular luxury hotels, including properties that compete at the highest international level; the problem is that their star system is different, and you can’t reliably convert the ratings with a rule such as “subtract one star.” The source of the rating and the individual property matter too much.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

India has its own official hotel-rating system, but the stars you see online aren’t always part of that system. So a four-star hotel in India may not look or feel like what you’d expect from a four-star hotel back home. I learned to pay attention to recent guest reviews and photos—not just the stars.

🏨 💻 When researching a future stay, I’d put particular weight on recent traveler photos and reviews mentioning the actual room, bathroom cleanliness, hot water, air-conditioning, property maintenance and — above all — food quality and food preparation hygiene.

Those details will tell you far more about what you’re likely to experience than the stars alone.
