Are There Really Stray Cows Roaming Around Everywhere?
Published October 8, 2026

Ryan Covington’s “Isn’t India ???” Series, Episode 4
As native Texans, we are no strangers to cows… but for us, they are usually confined to the countryside and ranches. Therefore I cannot even describe to you how surreal and captivating it was to see them roaming around in the cities and permeating every aspect of urban life.
However, when we get to the episode about DRIVING in India, the cows become yet another aspect of Indian life that we Americans have no precedent for. (They don’t cover this in drivers ed, lol 😂 )
So with the crowds, the bumper-to-bumper traffic, the incessant honking and the helter-skelter maneuvering — throw in the cows and the constant swerving to avoid them — and I think I’d just curl up into a little ball in the driver’s seat and cry until someone came and got me. 😂😂
But on foot, with my camera, I LOVED the unlikely juxtaposition of cows in the city, and in fact, it might be one of my Top 10 Favorite Things about India! 🥰🐮🥰🐄
🐮 oh and another thing — their cows seem, um… prettier? Than our cows? LOL 😂 I think they are a different species or something, because they also seem more alert, almost like dogs, than the slow, dim-witted cows I’m used to 🤣
