Arches National Park: Beauty for All, Regardless of Age or Fitness Level

As all you fellow hikers out there are already aware, a lot of the places we go tend to be inaccessible to many of our friends and family.

Patagonia, Everest, and the Alps immediately come to mind… these are all hikes/treks that I could never share with my elderly mother. 👵

But Arches is an exception.

1. If you go at the right time of year (spring or fall) it isn’t too miserably hot or cold.

2. Yes, it’s “high” for a desert, but in the grand scheme of things, there’s really no altitude situation to be concerned about.

3. Many of the hikes can be done with minimal exertion or technical skill.

4. It’s cheap and easy to get to.

And yet, Arches has natural beauty and breathtaking rock formations that rival many of the World Wonders I’ve seen!

Visiting these desert wonderments come with very little risk and at a fraction of the cost, making the park accessible to a much wider range of people in my life.

I even saw several folks pushing baby strollers. And I’m thinking — if a stroller can do this, I bet you a wheelchair could too! 🤷‍♂️

Anyways… whatever your fitness level, the key is getting up super early and getting started on your hikes in the dark, so you can be where you want to be when the sun comes up. 📸 🌅

The sunrises are not to be missed, and in my opinion, it’s really the whole reason to visit Arches.

Force yourself to get up! Then go take a big nap during the hottest part of the afternoon, if you must!! 😂
