Tips for The W Trek in Patagonia

The W Trek, Patagonia, Chile

Before sailing for Antarctica, my partner and I first spent time in Chile photographing the spectacular views of the famous W Trek in the Andes Mountains of Patagonia.
Having recently trekked to Everest Base Camp in Nepal β and gotten quite sick along the wayβ I was in a mindset to prepare for the absolute worst, and therefore somewhat delusional about what all we needed to bring with us on the W Trek.
Legitimate medication, toiletries, and protein supplements were VERY hard to come by in the Nepalese Himalayas, so for the W Trek I had our backpacks overstuffed with every type of medication, first aid kit, and protein bar imaginable! π¬π
But as it turned out, this was all quite unnecessary.
The camps along the W Trek were extremely modern and well equipped, offering every single amenity (and sometimes even luxuries!) that a trekker could possibly want or need.
So, if there is one overarching piece of advice I would give about packing for the W Trek, it would be this:
Focus primarily on bringing as much camera gear and photography accessories as you are willing to carry but make the trek easier and more enjoyable for yourself by leaving the majority of your other stuff behind.
The camps arenβt going to be selling the batteries or chargers that fit your exact camera β this much is true β but from medicines to protein bars to technical gear and clothing, they are likely to have almost everything else you might possibly need.
