We are taught that an online, Direct-to-Consumer model is the new, better way to shop, and that by cutting out the middleman, you save time and money. And for the most part, I agree!

But the second you start dealing with enormous, heavy, one-of-a kind things— especially if the seller and item are overseas— hear me when I say that the exact opposite becomes true. You’ll end up paying triple if not quadruple the cost of the item itself, just to have it shipped.

Also, I hope you plan to enjoy your big, beautiful new fountain right on the curb—because that’s where they are going to put it. You’ll have to hire a team to have it moved anyways, which is why purchases like this are best left to the (local) professionals.

Many, many folks have inexplicably asked me if I was nervous about putting this trough out in the FRONT yard, if I was afraid that it would get stolen?

Um… no. No I am not. 😂

Thieves are lazy. I once watched two guys on my doorbell camera abandon a small lit-up reindeer because it became too much for them to manage.

The amount of coordination and manpower that it took through the combined efforts of both @PittetArchitectuals and @CovingtonNursery to get this 5,000 lb. trough transported, positioned, an installed was mind blowing.

So unless I fall prey to a well-oiled burglary troop with at least five guys, a coordinated plan, and a forklift, I'm not too worried!

And speaking of criminals, yes that really is Martina Stewart shopping at Pittet. I love her so much, what a neat lady.
